Minkoff Center for Jewish Genetics, Jewish Genetic Screening Facility in Scottsdale, AZ!

Our vision is a Jewish Community free of genetic diseases.
 
We currently offer a panel of 105 genetic tests. Our registration fees range from $25 – $250, many of which are fully refundable when using insurance. The cost of these tests can exceed $3,000 in a private physician’s office. Call for non-resident rates and additional information. Test results are completely confidential.
 
We are also devoted to creating awareness of the increased occurrence of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (BRCA) Syndrome in the Jewish community. 1:40 individuals of Ashkenazi/Eastern European descent are carriers of mutations in their BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, approximately 10x the frequency of the general population. Both men and women may be carriers and can pass the mutations along to their sons and daughters. A BRCA gene can lead to an up to 80% increased risk of breast cancer and 40% increased risk of ovarian cancer for women. Men with a BRCA gene are at elevated risk for male breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer. The decision to test for BRCA is complex and is best explored with a genetic counselor. We are pleased to be a conduit for support and referrals.

Raise AWARENESS in the Jewish community on the importance of knowing about a family history of cancer in order to better understand any potential hereditary cancer risks.

EDUCATION
EDUCATE the community about the possible risk factors associated with the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 founder mutations.

SCREENING
Provide genetic counseling and access to low-cost genetic SCREENING for Ashkenazi Jewish individuals who have no family history of cancer.

REFERRALS
Provide resources and the appropriate genetic counseling REFERRALS to individuals with a known family history of cancer.
