KT002 8 DAYS LIMA, TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE, CUSCO & MACHU PICCHU

 

Day 1 Sun LIMA – PUERTO MALDONADO – WASAI TAMBOPATA LODGE
AArrivel in Lima. Assistance to connect with flight to Puerto Maldonado
Flight Lima-Puerto Maldonado. Reception at the airport of Puerto Maldonado and transportation to the Wasai Maldonado Ecolodge. You may leave heavy luggage until the day you return to Puerto Maldonado. You will travel for 3 to 4 hours in motorboat trip up the Tambopata River to Wasai Tambopata Lodge (box lunch on board). During the trip into the heart of the rainforest we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, birds of the tropical rainforest passing above the boat, caymans, capybaras and many other species of the local wildlife. We will also pass by typical Amazon communities. Reception and accommodation at Wasai Tambopata lodge.
Introductory walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing trees. Return to the lodge for dinner.
We will enjoy diverse sounds of the jungle which will accompany our first night in the Amazon.
Sleep at Wasai Tambopata Lodge.

 

Day 2 Mon WASAI TAMBOPATA LODGE
Boat trip to the Upper Tambopata River & Macaws.
Early wake up at 4:30 am to take a light breakfast (coffee or mate), to begin with our 40-minute travel upstream to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park.We will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, if weather permits, we will observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay, an unforgettable experience that makes this one of the greatest tours in the amazon. Then, we will walk through the river beach searching for animal footprints while we have refreshment.
In the middle morning we return to the lodge to have breakfast and then take a rest to relax or do the adventure activities or enjoy the facilities and the surroundings of Wasai. Also, you will have the chance of swimming in the Tambopata River. Those who wish can do kayaking on the river or you can join us to fish in the river where inhabit more than 250 species of fish. On route if the level of river are adecuate, we will visit the Cat cascades.
After lunch, we will have an ethno botanical walk into the rainforest by the Tambopata cross path, to learn about plants and medicinal trees of the area; and to observe the amazing jungle ecosystem where we will see walking palm trees, giant lupuna trees, snake trees and so on. At nightfall, we embark again to make a nocturnal caiman search.
Night at Wasai Tambopata Lodge.

 

Day 3 Tue WASAI TAMBOPATA LODGE – PUERTO MALDONADO – CUSCO
Back to Puerto Maldonado. Enjoy the sunrise from your terrace, walk around the lodge before breakfast.
After breakfast we will return by boat to Puerto Maldonado to take our flight to Cusco Meeting and transfer to the hotel

Day 4 Wed CUSCO
AM At leisure
PM Visit to the city. Visit Main Square and the Koricancha. Continue to the surrounding remains: Sacsayhuaman Fortress: At a walking distance from the centre, it has big walls of monumental stones distributed in zigzag and in three platforms that have an average of 360-m. /1,181 ft. There are stones of as much as 9 m/30 ft long and 5-m/16 ft wide.
Tambomachay: Known as the Inca Baths, it is said to have been a sanctuary for water worship. Clear running water flows through its stairways.
Puca Pucara Red Fortress: It is formed by terraces, stairways, turrets, urns, vaulted niches and platforms.
Kencco Amphitheatre: Built in rock, it is said to have been an Inca worship site. There are passages, canals, and stairways with stone engravings representing the puma, a sacred animal.
Overnight in Cusco

 

Day 5 Thu CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Transfer to the station for a morning train ride to the unparalleled, Machu Picchu , the “Lost City of the Incas” It is the most important attraction in the Department of Cusco, recently chosen as one of “THE NEW 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD” . Machu Picchu shows the knowledge of a culture that was able to build a citadel with gigantic rocks perfectly fitted together and in a site of difficult access. Still today, the attention is drawn on how and from where these people could transport such enormous stones. There are no stone pits in the region nor had the Incas
discovered the use of the wheel. It was known in the world after its discovery by Hiram Bingham in 1910.
Arrive in Aguas Calientes. Bus up to the Sanctuary. Guided visit. Descend by bus to Aguas Calientes. Vistadome train to Cusco. Meeting and transfer to the hotel.
