How to Reduce Anxiety When It Comes to Passover Cleaning
You know it, I know it, we all know it. Cleaning for Passover is insanely stressful and overwhelming. Everyone avoids it and I cannot imagine anyone enjoys it. It is not just regular cleaning that people do around springtime. It requires tremendous energy and patience. Even if you want to do everything in one day, you cannot. Below, we are going to discuss four ways to reduce anxiety when it comes to cleaning for Pesach.
Firstly, just don’t think about it. Thankfully, Pesach isn’t for another two months and a few weeks. So do the same thing you do when guests come to your house uninvited, frantically stuff everything into a room. Stuff the idea of cleaning for Passover into a room and don’t think about it until after Purim. I know everyone makes you think that you don’t have time, but you do. You have time and I have time; we are going to be okay. Realistically, if everyone in the family helps and your home isn’t some massive mansion, you can make your home ready in 1-2 weeks. I believe that sometimes we exaggerate Passover cleaning. While cleaning you do not need to go through your child’s project bin from when they were in nursery. You do not need to fold everything in your closet again and renovate your whole kitchen. Just do what is necessary and consider making your home ready for Passover in the Halachic sense. Get carried away if that is what you enjoy, but it is not a must, do not stress yourself out over it.
Secondly, you can start getting your home ready day by day. Like I said, we have another two months and a few weeks till Passover. That leaves you with enough time each day to clean or organize just a bit. Whether it be before you head off to work or late at night when you’re looking for something to do, slowly start getting things done. Start at the back of the house and go into each room one by one. Go through some of the cabinets and drawers. Make sure to let your family members know not to bring anything chametz into those rooms. You don’t want all your hard work to go to waste. By the time Passover creeps around, you won’t be overwhelmed because you strategically planned. Trust us, you will thank yourself that you did this.
Next, get help. Not mental help but if you think that’ll help you, get that too. Invest in cleaning help! If you have cleaning help during the year, that is amazing. If you don’t, that’s completely fine, it can be expensive. The one time that you should be investing in cleaning help should be for Passover. Having someone to help you clean lifts so many burdens off your shoulders. Keep in mind that cleaning help isn’t just a maid. You can hire someone to help you Kasher your kitchen, clean your car, or just clean your whole entire house. There are different levels, and you can choose an option that you are comfortable with. For example, you can clean every bedroom in your house or make your kitchen kosher for Passover. But hire someone to clean the bathrooms and your cars. There are people available to help you, take advantage of that so that you don’t go crazy.
Lastly, just don’t do it. Don’t clean your house. Instead, attend a Passover program and you won’t need to lift a finger at all. Not only when it comes to cooking, but when it comes to cleaning, hosting, washing dishes, etc. This year, you won’t have to shed sweat and tears trying to make your home completely clean for Passover. Let other people do it for you. Just take a break one year, it can get exhausting to clean, cook, and host every single year. Not only is it exhausting physically, the emotional and mental exhaustion that comes with thinking about Passover is too much. Invest in yourself and your family and just spend Passover away from home one year. Visit Passover Listings and see which of the 120+ programs are the perfect fit for your family.
There you go, anxiety reduced for the next two months and several weeks. We got your back!
